Sound Monitor

Model SM1005-4

Congratulations on your purchase of the model 1005-4 Silent Call sound monitor. This next generation device incorporates advanced processing to screen out most false alarm sources while retaining excellent sound sensitivity. Alarm sounds such as a telephone or alarm clock will reliably trigger the Sound Monitor if it is placed next to the sound source. The Sound Monitor will also detect a baby crying from several feet away at a minimum. Best of all, with its digital processing the Sound Monitor can usually be placed in a room with normal household sounds including conversation without false alarming.

Installation

  1. Place the Sound Monitor as close to the sound source as practical. For example, place it next to a telephone, alarm clock or apartment doorbell speaker.
  2. The Sound Monitor may be semi-permanently mounted to any flat surface with the supplied Velcro strips. However, use caution when attaching Velcro (or any self adhesive) to drywall since you can damage the wall surface if you subsequently need remove the Velcro strip.
  3. For best transmission range, avoid placing the Sound Monitor on a metallic surface.
  4. Make sure that the address code switches (inside the battery access door) are set to the same code as your receiver. All Silent Call equipment leaves the factory set to the Silent Call default address of 1=off, 2=off, 3=off, 4=on, 5=on. The ON direction is marked on the switch with a small arrow.

Operation

  1. Slide the on/off switch on the side of the Sound Monitor to the ON position. The LED will flash once to indicate the monitor is operational.
  2. Any sound loud enough and long enough will cause the Sound Monitor to activate and send a signal to any Silent Call receiver (except Shakeup) within range.
  3. The Sound Monitor incorporates a small delay and will totally ignore brief sounds such as door slams regardless of how loud they are.
  4. The Sound Monitor leaves the factory set to 50% sensitivity, which should be adequate for almost all situations. If for some reason the sensitivity needs to be changed, there is an adjustment located behind the battery door. Rotating the adjustment clockwise increases the sensitivity.
